Death
Insurance will pay “Funeral Expenses” in the event of the death of an insured person or dependent.On the other hand, insurance will pay “Funeral Costs” to the person who actually handles the burial of a deceased person with no family members or close friends.
Funeral Expenses/Funeral Costs (for dependents, “Dependents' Funeral Expenses”)
In the event of the death of an insured person, “Funeral Expenses” of 50,000 yen will be paid to “bereaved family members supported by the insured person”.
In the event of the death of a dependent family member, “Dependents' Funeral Expenses” of 50,000 yen will be paid to the insured person.
“Bereaved family members supported by the insured person”
In the event of the death of an insured person, Funeral Expenses will be paid to bereaved family members supported by the insured person. However, this category is not restricted to dependents. It includes anyone who depended for their livelihood on the income of the insured person at the time of his or her death, even if the bereaved did not belong to the same household as the insured person or did not have a family relationship with him or her.
If the cause is a workplace accident
When the death was caused by an accident at the workplace or while commuting, Funeral Assistance will be paid by Worker's Accident Compensation Insurance instead of health insurance. Check with the person responsible at your establishment for more information.
- *When even illnesses and injuries on-the-job are not targeted for benefits of the Worker's Accident Compensation Insurance, benefits of the health insurance are provided except the duties as the officer of the corporation (except for a corporation less than five employees).
In some cases, benefits are paid even after leaving employment
Funeral expenses are paid even in the following cases:
- Death of the insured person within three months after leaving employment
- Death occurring during the period of receiving Injury and Sickness Allowance or Maternity Allowance
- Death within three months after the end of receipt of Injury and Sickness Allowance or Maternity Allowance
- * To receive payment of funeral expenses, the requirement for being insured for at least one year does not apply.
Handling of deceased's Individual Number (My Number)
To ensure appropriate handling of the deceased’s Individual Number, the Individual Number is not required for the deceased. You will not be required to enter the Individual Number for the deceased insured person on the Claim for Funeral Expenses, Notification of Loss of Eligibility, etc.
